Racind Flats Question?

I am a begining sub 22 runner in cross country. Currently, I'm using new shoes that I got recently (asics Oberon). They have excellent cushioining, but I was wondering if its worth getting racing flats?? If so, what shoe do you recomend?

Racind Flats Question?
Whether or not to use racing flats depends on your goals. True, they are somewhat lighter than a normal training shoe, but we're only talking about a few ounces here, which is not going to make a significant difference to the average runner.

If you're running cross country, I'm guessing that your races are somewhere between 2 and 5 miles? Over that distance, you're not likely to notice the difference of a few extra ounces. In fact, what you may find is that training in one shoe and racing in another can interfere with your stride and pacing .... it may turn into a distraction because it won't "feel" right.

If you're just beginning, concentrating on training and technique is going to pay much bigger dividends than worrying about your gear. In addition, the cushioning of your training shoes is going to help you to avoid injury on the uneven surfaces you're likely to encounter on a cross country course. Racing flats are going to put you at greater risk.

My advice .... save your money. Good luck!
Reply:although the racing flats don't have much cushion, they are very lightweight. and in a race, where you're only running 3 miles you don't need that much support. so it is recommended to wear flats in races to lower down times. as in your practices keep on wearing the training shoes. i would recommend some asics or nikes. try some on, and see which ones you like. it's really personal, but whather style you get, make sure it's a little bigger than your normal sized shoe.
