Painful calves from Racing Spikes?

I usually do about 50 miles a week. This past week I raced a 5k with my racing spikes. At about mile 2.5 I started to have really bad calf pain. The pain is still here, 2 days after the race. Any tips on how to allieviate/prevent pain when running with racing spikes?

Also, I wear orthotics on my regular training shoes.

Painful calves from Racing Spikes?
This problem is commom amongst long distance runners who rarely wear spikes to race.

When you run on your forefoot at race pace in joggers or racing flats your foot will slightly shear the ground, and slip backwards as your calf prepares for propulsion.

When you wear spikes however, the slip does not occur, and it puts a much greater load on the calf. As your muscles are not use this stress, microdamage occurs and you are left with sore calves!

A thorough warm up will help as cold muscles are more prone to injury, but it would be a good idea to do a speed session or 2 per week in your spikes to strengthen your muscles.

As previously suggested, go and buy some distance spikes with an EVA heel, sprint spikes will only compound the problem.

I wouldnt worry about wearing your orthotics in the spikes unless otherwise advised by your podiatrist. They will add excess bulk and weight to the spike and do little to prevent injury or pain over such a distance.
Reply:i need you to answer a question first,

what sort of spikes do you have because you want 1500m spikes.

Are trail shoes good for running road races?

if so, what distances? if not, why not?

thanks.

Are trail shoes good for running road races?
if you mean trail shoes as in cross country shoes, then yes. as well as they are in good working conditions then you could go or, in your case, run anywhere. yet, if you mean hiking boots, then no, of course. hiking boots aren't meant to run in races. it seriously could damage your feet.
Reply:yes they are but they are a bit heavy, id say get some racing flats(not spikes). flats make it like you are running bare foot but with protection from the ground. very light, like lighter than sandals. they are pretty cool. but you can use trail shoes, they are fine.

all this is meant if you mean trail like cross country.
Reply:If you are going to be competing in road races, you should ditch your training shoes and run in lighter shoes. It really makes a difference. Asics makes great shoes for racing.

In my environment, the only race of people that look at my SHOES are asians. Why?

It's everywhere i go. School, walking down the street, etc. It's like my whole body is invisible, and the only thing that asians see are my shoes. Are they in some way offensive or appealing only to asians? Why is this?

It's courtesy not to look in someone's face as they walk by in some Asian countries. Don't take offense to it.
Reply:I'm not sure about specific cultures, but many Asians (including Japanese) feel that direct eye contact with strangers is rude/overbearing. Don't take it personally.

What is the best way to improve my racing speed?
Hello,

Congrats on your new little one. I'd adopt a training plan that gradually increases your mileage and intensity. See the links below and add some of these workouts into your routine. I would think that your goal (sub-24) is attainable...just take it one race at a time. Best of luck!

- Mike
Reply:Take a dump before your race.

Lighten the load and away you go.
Reply:Do some speed repeats on the track once a week. Run up and down hills.
Reply:run with a weighted vest
Reply:I am an ex collegiate runner who has an one year old and the best advice I can give is take a look at your running form. You know it is the same? Do you enter a distance race with the same mentality as a sprinter, you shouldn't. Also, What is your weekly mileage. Are you devoting atleast 3 days to serious workouts? Be patient with yourself your post baby baggage could be a factor as well
Reply:Practice long distance events and use weights if you find the distance you are running easy. It won't happen really quickly but you will improve.

Do you think that some running shoes train faster than others?

I have trained in Asics gel cushioning system for years, and recently received a pair of Nike. Asics have provided great stability and protection through the years and been great shoes especially the original GT-II. These Nike air cushioning system shoes seem to give me more spring and creates faster turnover and I find myself training at a faster pace. Ever heard of runners taking long runs with one brand and fartlek or tempo runs with another brand. Make any sense to anyone? Not talking about racing flats, just standard training shoes about the same weight. Anyone have favorite brands they trade off for different effects? Thanks in advance for your input.

Should I wear spike shoes for the 800m race?

I'm running an 800 tomorrow, I'm just wondering if I should wear spikes or just good running shoes.

Reply:definitely wear spikes or racing flats for the 800. i would suggest spikes, but if you don't have them wear racing flats.
Reply:Yea, i would wear spikes. You want to be light as possible.Any kind would do but middle or long distance spikes are best
Reply:i ran an 800 today, got 2:16 with spike shoes so i suggest wearing them
Reply:You should wear middle distance spikes, if you don't have any then racing flats could work.
Reply:YES WEAR SPIKES. i ran one meet this year without spikes, and it was not great. Spikes are lighter, and since it is a very fast race pretty much necessary. The legitimately take off time-at least a few seconds!
Reply:only if they are mid spikes.
Reply:wear your normal running shoes spikes will hurt your feet
Reply:I also run the 800m.

Wear middle or long distance spikes.

Also, because the 800m is considered more of a distance run than a sprint, you could wear a racing flat.

I'd recommend racing flats for future races, because they are lightweight for the 800m and better than just "good running shoes."

Track Running Shoes?

I have recently bought a new pair of Adidas Meteor shoes as I wanted to improve my sprinting time but I have no idea on how to run in them?

My current fastest 100m time ( in flat-footed shoes ) is 12.26 secs and I am 14yrs old. How much faster could running in track shoes make me?

I heard that there is a special way of running in track-shoes and so- what is it? And what is running on the balls of your feet? What is the correct way of running a 100/200/400m race in them? (start, middle, end) Could I use track shoes for an 800m race? or are running shoes better?

Track Running Shoes?
First off, your track spikes need to fit your foot like a glove, meaning the size of your spikes wouldn't be the same size as your regular shoes. Also, running an 800, I would suggest a different type of spikes, ones that have a heel part to them, or just regular running shoes.

Second, running on the balls of your feet means staying on the part of your foot that is closest to your toes.

Last, another thing that might improve your time would be to use starting blocks. Spend time with these to determine your settings and learn how to correctly come out of them.

Best of luck to you!

ya run fast
Reply:I have been running for 8 years now. Though I am biased towards Nike as a brand, I would recommend you to go to a running-specific store, like Fleet Feet in Carrboro, NC. They can help you find the right shoe because people buy shoes that aren't necessarily right for their feet, but more comfortable or fashionable. But after you get the correct shoes or even if you haven't, I would go to any major athletics store and ask the sales associates because they are getting paid to know the products they are selling. But make sure you state the use/reason for buying the shoes. Good luck!!!

Reply:First buy Asics Running shoes.

next place one foot in front of the other and repeat as fast as possible.
Reply:Wow! If you run 100m in 12.26, without spikes you’re pretty fast! I'm not an expert but i would say running in spikes would get your time down to about 11.86.

Running on the balls of your feet does make you run a lot faster. It's when only the front part of your foot (where the spikes are) touches the ground. There should also be a 'clawing the ground' action when you run. Basically the less your foot touches the ground, the better. This can be quite hard to learn- but keep on working at it, it pays off!

Good Luck!
Reply:i'm not so sure you'd have to be extremely fast to run 800m especially in track shoes which i know you can so practice everyday to get better
Reply:Well, im not a sprinter, im a freshman distance runner. But, I do know that mile times and 3200 times are decided by 5-20 seconds sometimes, and 100's are often decided by less than a second so you wont be seeing huge changes.

Why are certain races prone to buying certain brands and styles of shoes than other races?

Black people, Jordan, nike AF1's, Dunks, sb Dunks, etc... ; White people, nike shox anything, rainbows, birkenstock, new balance, (not 574's so much) etc... ; Latinos, nike cortez, lugz, etc... I am not racist. But, as a shoe store manager I see this trend all day, everyday. I also wonder if the shoe brand companies target these demographics on purpose?

Why are certain races prone to buying certain brands and styles of shoes than other races?
I absolutely think it is marketing to certain demographics. Companies spend millions on marketing research and ultimately marketing campaigns.

What track shoes should i buy?

It's already into the season and i need a new pair of shoes for my races. I run a very serious 1600M, 800M, and 4*400M relay. I've looked into Milers, the Zoom, and Maxcats, and a couple others. I've been happy with my Asic Corrido's for tha past 4 years. Yup the same pair since the 8th grade to my current junior year. I just think i need a new pair as i strive for scholarship. What are your opinions on the spikes i should get for my events?

What track shoes should i buy?
I would definitely go with the milers if you have strong enough calves which it sounds like you do. I got a pair of milers for cross-country this year and they have worked wonders. Sure the milers are for shorter distances but they work just as well for cross-country. I'd say that the milers would be perfect for the 1600, 800, and 4 by 400. If you are currently a junior then this would be the PERFECT time to get a new pair of spikes. I definitely recommend the milers!!!

I really don't care about looks, so i buy whatever feels the best. go to a local running store and try them on and help them find the ones that are the best for your own feet. I usually save room for my feet to grow so i can make them last for two seasons. Ask for an extra spike kit. They will usually throw one in for free. Best of luck

Should I run a long distance race with sprinter shoes?

Not if you can help it because sprinter shoes are designed for the shorter distances sprinters run and wearing them for long distances may give you blisters

Should I run a long distance race with sprinter shoes?
noo. spikes are for sprinting. you need good padded yet LIGHT running shoes.

spikes will give you shin splints... MAJOR
Reply:you should run with spikes. There are different kinds of spikes there's short distance long distance and medium distance. where short for sprinting and were medium for 800m 1500m and 3000m but long for cross country. i have medium distance, they wock for a lot of stuff.
Reply:Not a good idea. Sprint shoes are not designed for anything over 400m. Even middle distance spikes aren't good for a long distance event.

What kind of running shoes should i get?

im in track and cross country and i just finished my second season in track . i run the 3200 ,1600, and 800 so yea im a distance runner.i un my 2 mile in 12:35 1 mile in 5:55 and my 800 in 2:45 next year is my last year and ive been runin all my races in training shoes and i heard that flats can take a sec or 2 off ur time and i was wonderin what kind of flats do yall reomend?

What kind of running shoes should i get?
There is a difference between flats and spikes. Flats are more for for xc and distance running not on the track. Spikes are for the synthetic track. If you are planning on buying thim for xc i would recommend getting racing flats not spikes and vice versa. What I would recommend you to do is go down to your local running store, NOT SHOE STORE, tell them that you are running track or xc and you are looking for a good pair of racing flats or spikes (depending on what you want) they will tell you the pros and cons about each and you can actually try them on. There is no way for a person on Y!A to be able to tell you the exact shoe that you should get, every foot is different you need to go down and try them on and get the right one for you. I definitely recommend you to go get a pair because they will definitely shave time off. Good luck and have fun racing!

How much do track shoes affect race times?

how much faster could i run a mile in track shoes as opposed to regular sneakers?

How much do track shoes affect race times?
They help alot. I cut 4 seconds off my average just by wearing my mid distance track spikes. They are lighter and get a better grip allowing you to propel yourslef foward with more force.
Reply:i wouldnt say a minute-thats rediculous. but a distance spike shoe will probably cut off 15 seconds if you have teh right shoe (some have different archs, width cuts, etc), at most 30 seconds probably.
Reply:well running shoes are made for running and they are proven to make you run faster. Sneakers are made for playing basketball chiefly (i.e. stopping, lunging, etc.) Running shoes are specially designed to bounce and propel you, and that in much more comfort. Track shoes, which have much less padding but are even lighter, are made to maximize your timing. However, as you know, they really hurt and you shouldn't use them if you are not participating in a race. I would say that you could cut a minute or so off your time just by going from tennis shoes to running shoes. Me and my family have been running for years (personally I have participated in running competitions for almost thirty years, since I was eight years old. The funny thing is that when I was a child the running shoes weren't half as good as they are today. The track shoes haven't changed much, however. The air soles and such are a big improvement over what they used to have.
Reply:Track Shoes help A LOT!!!!!!!!!!!! They are much lighter, and believe it or not, that helps quite a bit.

Racing flats or trainers???

Over the last few weeks ive come across many threads on wether training in training shoes or racing flats is better. Some say the Flats are better because they let you train your natural muscles in your foot and helps prevent less injuries while also making faster times because of the lighter weight. Others think that the conventional training shoes are better and then use racing flats on race day. My question is that What is better training in flats or trainers. Or maybe just some run in trainers and some in flats let me here your thoughts on this?????????

Racing flats or trainers???
You should wear training shoes because the racing flats do not have enough cushion to protect your feet.

You need to get used to wearing the racing flats if that is what you are going to wear in the races.

You can use them for fast runs, or intervals.

Just like spikes you need to get used to them or you will be really sore the first time you race in them.
Reply:I train in regular running shoes and race in flats. It cuts my mile time from about 6:50 to 6:40. I run in the flats the week before the race, just so that I feel comfortable in them again.
Reply:well i had some trainers and i was gunna buy some new running shoes. i went to a runnin g store and the guy explained the difference between trainers and racing flats (at the time i did not know any of this). then he said that even if the trainers are worn-out, if im not experiencing any foot problems, that its ok to use them as long as its for training. the racing flats were to be saved for races ONLY. racing flats dont have much heel and injury is inevitable if used during training (like running hills for example). also, by using trainers you get used to the extra weight so when u use flats, u get faster since they are lighter
Reply:If you are going to seriously start training in flats you might as well give your natural support mechanism (your feet) a chance to do what they were really designed to do...just run. The flat is just getting closer to what your feet want to do which is to go solo. But be aware, you are going to experience some different feelings (i.e. possibly pain and soreness) in your feet when you start training in your flats. I would suggest using your flats not necessarily for speed or intervals but for easy runs to allow your feet and ankle muscles to strengthen slowly (that's why you are feeling the pain). You will also lessen the shock and strain that your knees, hips and spine will experience by training without the artificial cushioning systems that are frames have grown accustomed to with trainers and high-tech running shoes. Now, here is the kicker - with incorporating your flats into your regimen (which will add strength to your foot/ankle) try 1 day a week, maybe 1 mile...barefoot. Don't worry - you're not going to be some Zola Budd, Vegan, pouthuli freak for not wearing your $120 Air Gel CumuloNimbus Shox Intelligent Airflow 1.5 trainers while you push your body to its next PR. You foot will experience running the way it is designed to run. But just go slow and only for short runs - your body is not ready for long runs and the bottoms of your feet are not ready for it as well. Allow flat %26amp; free (Not Free 5.0) runs to be another regimen in your preparation. Try it. If it doesn't work...try someone else's answer.
Reply:This is what i do i do my distance days in trainers and my speed work outs in flats that way i get use to using my flats.

How does one wash running shoes?

I recently ran a trail run (very fun), but didn't anticipate running through water, as this is the dry season for my area. After the race my shoes were very muddy, and now deserve a good cleaning.

Have you ever washed shoes? Can you wash them in a washing machine? If so, how?

Thanks a lot!

How does one wash running shoes?
I used to sell running shoes for awhile, I always todl people how to keep them clean. First off take out the shoe laces. It is ok to wash them but use cold water and a gentle cycle if you have one. The best results are given when you spray the heck out of them with some kind of stain spray first.
Reply:i usually just take my shoes into the backyard and spray them down with a hose, then leave them out in the sun to dry overnight
Reply:Wash in cold water in the washing machine, air dry. Heat will loosed tn glue.
Reply:Just put them in the washing machine and let them dry in the sun.
Reply:I tend just to get the hose and put it on the concentrated spray bit rather than the spreader and spray all the dirt of with that, then just leave them to dry. It ony takes about a minute to get them looking nice and clean. If they get stained or anything then I just tend to spray stain remover on, give them a bit of a wipe with a cloth and clean them of the same way as before.

Walking shoes vs. running shoes?

i bought a pair of ***-ugly, but comfortable shoes for running, but have discovered that they are race-walking shoes...i should have known because the sole is "hinged" in 3 places near the toe.

should i return them? does it really matter? aren't shoes basically the same?

i'm new to running, actually haven't started yet.

Walking shoes vs. running shoes?
I'm guessing you bought a pair of New Balance 111's with their bright orange and electric blue color scheme. Comfortable but they have been known to keep people awake at night.

There are two main differences between a racewalking shoe and a running shoe are the flexibility of the sole and the height of the heel. Runners use shoes like these when they are racing. They are called racing flats and racewalkers who don't use racewalk specific shoes use them routinely.

What you will sacrifice running in these shoes is the padding in the heel and perhaps some ankle support. That might be important if you are overweight or going long distances. Since you are new to running, I don't think you'll be missing anything by running in them.
Reply:yes it does matter well for me,anyways shoes are not the same i think shoes tell who you are and what u like and if you got a good taste!!

and if they are so ugly return them!!!!
Reply:The difference I heard is that running shoes have more cusion on the heel, since runners strike the ground with such force (up to 3 times their body weight, I think)
Reply:I would return them

As a general rule, you can walk in running shoes but you cannot run in walking shoes.

Also, if you want good running shoes your best off buying from a company that makes primarily running shoes rather than one of the big players in athletic shoe market; these companies generally go for form over function.
Reply:Last year i ran track with walking shoes and they did not help! I changed over to running shoes, that have more groves in the bottom, and i was way better since i could grip the track easier. I would say, if you are competing, buy new ones.

Nike mayflys racing shoe?
they shouldnt fall apart, it depends how much you wear them and what you do in them.
Reply:They won't fall apart as a result of you overpronating, but they will fall apart as they wear out. The MayFly's are a very lightweight racing shoe designed ideally for lightweight neutral runners, from what I've read and understood, tehy MayFly's are expected to last around 100k, though this will vary depending upon the terrain and weather conditions as well as your style of running. Overpronation may cause them to wear out a little sooner than normal but not by a great amount, especially if you only slighty overpronate.

In terms of them as a racing shoe, anyone who i've spoken to who has used them has had nothing but positive comments to make.

Thanks in advance.

What is the best racing shoe?

He wants a good model of shoe, not just a brand.

Whats a good kind of cross country shoes for a meet? Like do I want Spikes,or Flat bottom rubber??

Cross Country course are all different, they are hilly, rough, and soft. It is 3.1 miles and I need a good race shoes, I am a junior in high school.

Whats a good kind of cross country shoes for a meet? Like do I want Spikes,or Flat bottom rubber??
for cross country you're going to want spikes with a rubber spike plate and removable spikes

this way, if the course has a lot of cement on it, you can take the spikes out and just race without them in the shoe

go to a running shoe store, though, as opposed to a huge sporting goods store, because they'll make sure you're fitted correctly and will recommend a good pair for you
Reply:Even though regular shoes are more comfortable, i suggest spikes because they provide plenty of traction and are VERY light. Besides, you dont really think about your shoes when you're in a meet.
Reply:Most people wear spikes, because they are light and can help with gripping the course better so you don't slip. I personally prefer my running shoes ahead of spikes, because I find spikes uncomfortable and they don't offer enough support for me. It's all about personal preference. If you like spikes, go to a RUNNING SHOE store, and find a good pair. Make sure to get new ones every season, no matter if you choose spikes or running shoes. Just go with what your heart desires!!
Reply:you only need flats if your an extremley good runner. spikes are for mostly dirt or mud courses, most people that do high school xc get normal running shoes that are just more durable or trail runners. best place to go would be road runners sports or snails pace
Reply:I have used spikes and regular running shoes and liked spikes better because you run faster and feel comfortable.

If you had a chance to walk in any other race shoes what race (people) would you choose???? (good question)?
I don't mind the colour and other differences in physical ways. It is hard to say if I would enjoy having another culture but I certainly would have the same values. I don't considered myself being racist as I work and have good friends that are from other cultures. I do respect their believes and they are lovable. However, I would choose to be either black or Japanese. And I would be so good looking and gentleman. Sexy and gorgeous like my friends that are black and Japanese. My only worry would be to have to learn the languages.

Can you use a Cross Country racing flat shoe for a marathon?

I am a racewalker. I have been able to wear NB 111's for several years, and now they are being discontiued. I have been told that a racing flat is the next best thing to a bonafide racewalking shoe. I am looking for a minimal support shoe that is lightweight and flexible. I am very close to getting some Asics and can't decide between the Gel-DS Racer and the Gel Dirt Dog Spikeless.

Anyway, my real question is, will a racing flat hold up to a marathon distance? How much could this type of shoe take?

Can you use a Cross Country racing flat shoe for a marathon?
NO, it will kill, those shoes do not have enough padding in them for your foot. Depending o your budget you can buy racing shoes for road races, they are light and built to comfort your foot during the race. I know all this because I ran a half marathon with XC racing flats, bad idea, its not right what so ever. Especially if it is a road race and your not on grass. Good Luck

---James
Reply:The racing shoes can take the marathon distance but not your body joints. Don't save the money and use it to pay for medical bills after the run.

Go to the sport shop and consult, you should be able to get a pair with good cushion and reasonably priced. It can be Nike or Asics.
Reply:I would NEVER wear racing flats to run/race walk a marathon. I wore flats for a half-marathon and my knees were definately paying for it the next day. You need a little bit more of a cushion when you're running that far.
Reply:yes it can, but i would suggest the nike zoom marathoners. Its a flat designed especially for the marathon, so that is probably your best option.
Reply:Nike Frees are feather light
Reply:Definitely go with the Asics DS Racer. The marathon will take it's toll on your feet after 26.2 miles and consequently

a minimalist spikeless shoe is not sufficient even for you. The A6 DS racer is probably about a 9 0z. racing shoe that will give you more sufficinet cushioning and still not impede your obvious to desire to race walk or run faster.
Reply:It would be better to run barefoot than to use a cross country shoe during a marathon.

Oh, but I do remember Bill Rodgers running his first marathon in what looked like basketball shoes.
Reply:for a race you'll never need a flat shoe, you need a trainers with an arch
Reply:Do not use racing flats. Asics Gel-DS Racers are good!! Flats could hold up but will hurt your feet later!! Try Asics Gel-Hyper Speed and DS Racer VII. Nike Zoom Air Katana II are good too!!
Reply:an xc racing flat may be too unsupportive for 26.2 miles..i understand you want limited support but for a distance such as the marthon you need a shoe that is lighweight but also with the durability to last you for 3 hours or however long it takes you...you dont want to have to pull out because your feet hurt..i've tried the nike zoom marathoner and would definitly recomend that shoe.
Reply:It depends on the racing flat. I've worn racing flats in marathons, but they had some cushion and durability to them (like Nike Marathoner). If your XC flat doesn't have some comparable cushion to your trainer, I wouldn't risk injury to shave a minute or two. Good luck!

Can cross-country shoes be used for track?

I have a pair of cross-country flats which can have spikes added to them. Are these the kind of racing shoes that could be used for track, or would I need a new pair?

Can cross-country shoes be used for track?
If you are running long distance in track, the shoes would probably work. However, if you are looking to participate in sprinting events, you may want to invest in another type of shoe specifically made for sprinting. Usually sprinting shoes have spikes just on the ball of the foot to allow quicker turnover while distance shoes have spikes more all over the shoe to allow the runner to use their entire foot. Hope this helps!
Reply:yes if you are running long distance races and they are still in good shape
Reply:if there still in good shape you should still be able to use them. If your a sprinter they will probably benefit you more, but flats can be used for distance as well.. just dont use them in field events.. if you do field events get throwing shoes.. most likely you used them a lot for cross country with all the running in it, but since they are flats they should last a little but longer.

good luck, hope it helps
Reply:yes if they are good shoes it doesnot make a difference
Reply:if they have spikes, yes.
Reply:Yeah, in the junior high track meets maybe.
Reply:depending on how light they are you can just add the spikes to them and use those but if u want to run track u want your shoes to be as light as possible

Arch/knee pain? time for new running shoes?

lately i have been experiencing severe arch pain when we go on distance runs (on pavement) as well as knee pain. is this because of my shoes? i got them in mid january 08. i run approx. 3miles and week days at track practice and 6miles on saturdays, and i run in them in meets (yeah i know i should get some new racing shoes). these are just training shoes. i have brooks. should i get new ones?

Arch/knee pain? time for new running shoes?
hii

yes, if you're feet are hurting it's probably time for new shoes.

FUNNN!

haha, but really.. you're statistically supposed to switch running shoes every 10 months...

hope i helped
Reply:yeah, pretty much. but if the knee/arch pain doesn't go away after ur new pair of shoes is worn in, then u need to talk to a trainer or a doctor, it culd turn out u have something wrong if the pain keeps comin.
Reply:Yes, get new shoes IMMEDIATELY. I have been out 4 weeks because of knee pain that I learned was tendenitis. As stated above, new shoes every 10 months or every 500 miles whichever comes first.

Which training shoes are best for 50-meter indoor track sprinting?

Not really interested in racing shoes, but just overall training/practice ones that are in the $50-100 price range. This is for high school indoor track, btw. Thanks.

Which training shoes are best for 50-meter indoor track sprinting?
if you're doing 50m sprints then you training should consist of resistance training, plyometrics and sprints.

If you already have sprinting spikes and are looking for suitable shoes for the gym then go for something with plenty of support like the asics gel kayano,

If you want something for indoor training on a wooden floor look for something more along the lines of a squash or basketball as the blow-molded outsole in most trainers performs poorly on wood.

Finally, if you are training on an indoor track regularly then you should be wearing spikes. (this is fine for sprinters but longer distances can get away with trainers out of competition) I wear asics hyper sprints which I find perfect for my needs, but you can probably find something suitable from any big manufacturer. Dont forget to sit down as do some ground stretches or something between sets of sprints (or even take the spikes off) for the first few sessions until your feet and legs get used to them.
Reply:Nick shoes are good
Reply:Spikes, oasics
Reply:Nike is good, around the price you want try Brooks they are usually a little cheaper and getting better at making sprint shoes.

What shoes do i get.?

i need cross country racing shoes, but dont know what to look for in a shoe. also where can i find them with out spending about $50 on a pair. i need them to be about $30 or less.

What shoes do i get.?
Go to a running shoe store and see what fits your foot and feels good. There are racing flats and cross country spikes, what you get depends on the courses you will be running.

Ask your coach what you need. The brand doesn't matter all major brands make good quality shoes, the only thing that matters is how the shoe feels to you.

How to Identify Fake Puma Shoes?

Hi. I'm currently in China, and I ran into a street vendor the other day selling Puma shoes. I dont know much about Puma shoes (hence being here), but i thought they looked real. He is selling the ones made out of fabrics with really thin soles. Some carry car logos so i think they are car racing shoes (narrow on the toe side). They looked kinda dirty and sizes are on the plus side...maybe that's the reason they ended up on the street.

My question is, are there any puma signatures that I can use to distinguish fake from real? Those shoes all had the puma logo just above the toe, and inside the flap there is a sign says made in China and with 2 different sizing numbers (one US standards and one something else). Since they had fabric finishes and the soles are thin, it was hard for me to determine if it's real or not. I think they are these:

Has anyone ever heard of Hyatt Horse Racing, Polo shoes?

Yes. Horses prone to stumbling can benifit from them,as the lower outside rim gives nicer feel and grip. Some think it might even speed them up.. Its your money!

If it stumbls for no organic reason, give it a go.

Has anyone ever heard of Hyatt Horse Racing, Polo shoes?
A Polo shoe has an internal rim that is higher than the outside rim. This increases traction and allows for quick stops and turns at high speeds. Like other shoes, they have 8 holes but on a polo horse, the end 2 are never used because they reduce the capacity of hoof expansion.

Hyatt Hotels has a program that is similiar to airlines frequent flyer miles and credit card companies points programs.

What's the difference between boxing shoes and car racing shoes?

They both have flat, grippy rubber soles and ankle support..

I'm having a hard time distinguishing between the two types of shoes, I can't ask the shoeshop person because I live in a foreign country and i dont speak the language

What's the difference between boxing shoes and car racing shoes?
Adidas makes a shoe with a Goodyear soul on it, a really really good shoe, it was made for driving but is an excellent boxing shoe. There is no differences really other then the Adidas brand has a contoured soul %26amp; boxing shoes are flat, other then that they are practically the same shoe but these will probably the best boxing shoe you will ever buy. Enter on the net "adidas goodyear GD05" which is the style %26amp; code. They come in several colors. In California there is a store in Montclair that sells them.

I'm looking for a light weight shoe to race in. If you would like just throw names out there because in know most of the shoes that are popular, but have no clue which shoe would be best for me. If it helps a run a 2:02 800m, 4:45 mile.

The best racing shoes for a high school runner that competes in the 800m, mile, and sometimes the 2 mile.?
some sort of nike's. they are such great shoes. but only if you like them and feel good.
Reply:The best thing you can do is go down the a Running Lab. In fact there's a place by that name; "Running Lab."

They will have you take off your shoes, watch you walk, and even take an imprint of your foot. After doing so, they will spend a few minutes analyzing everything. They will ask you a few questions about your running style and your level of running.

Once they have finished they will direct you to a wall of shoes, that has ALL different brands of shoes on it and say something like; "These are what we recommend for you based on your foot's shape, the way you run, where your foot actually impacts the ground and the width of slimness of your feet.

After they show you the selection, try a few pairs on, take them for a "test run" around the block and once you've found a pair that you like, then get them.

They are GREAT! My spouse has ran a marathon and we are training once again for another one coming up in May. We always go to the running lab. Oh...and the shoes, are sold at a great price too.

And there's no extra charge for their services...it's all part of what they do. So the whole process, from the moment you get in the door to the moment you select your shoes, is free.

I've personally used the Running Lab, along with my spouse and many others, they are FANTASTIC! And they have all kinds of different Brands of shoes. From Nike to New Balance. =)

Hope this helps...
Reply:If cost is no option, then I would go with the Nike Zoom Milers which are the lightest distance shoe out there, or perhaps the Asics Japan Thunder.
Reply:you would want a middle distance or a long distance track spike, depending on if you strike more with your heel or stay on your toes. the middle distance spike will have some cushion directly under the heel, but the long distance spike will have cushion under the whole foot. do not get a sprint spike, because they have no cushioning whatsoever. go to a dick's sporting goods store near you to see what they have. they should have the nike zoom rival md as a middle distance spike, and various others by asics and adidas to suit your needs. good luck this year!
Reply:Why don't you look at this website. It's pretty helpful.

How much are my Rick Mears racing shoes worth?

I have a pair of Rick Mears autographed racing shoes with a letter from him detailing all of the tracks he wore them.

How much are my Rick Mears racing shoes worth?
Your letter from Mears which authenticates the racing shoes as his own and where he drove with them is invaluable to their marketability. If I were you, I'd look beyond ebay for selling them if that's what you intend to do.

Remember, they're only worth what someone is willing to pay...better increase your chances by marketing them to someone who is a HUGE Rick Mears fan. I'd buy them if I didn't already have a full racing suit of his that he wore during the 1989 season. :)
Reply:Heres a few R. Mears products, im guessing the price will be around that:

Reply:Keep in mind that this question is in the Sports section. If you don't know Rick Mears then you are a little young and unknowledgeable about racing. I'm not sure how much his shoes would be because he's not a high-profile athelete.
Reply:I don't know but that is a seriously cool piece of memorabilia. I would pay at least $1,000 if he was wearing them at any of his Indy wins. Try calling the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum.

And to those of you who "answered" this question by asking who Rick Mears is, why respond at all if you don't know? You're just showing how ignorant you are by not recognizing one of the greatest drivers of all time.

What do you think of my poem "Racing Shoes?"?

--Racing Shoes

My old shoes are lovely

I carry them in a pillow case

When I feel lonely

I take them out and race

Sometimes I race against bikes

Sometimes against cars

With both of those I lose

But I always win with stars

Hello,

I am going to run in a track meet very soon. I'll be running the 200 meter dash and the 4x100 relay. I was wondering what model of shoes I should buy. I am not allowed to use track spikes or any shoes that are made for spikes. I was wondering the New Balance 1001, the Asics Gel-Piranha, or the Adidas AdiZero PR? Basically I need a pair of racing flats best for shorter distances.

Racing Shoes?
What kind of shoes are better for training? And for racing? For everyone at our clinics we recommend light weight shoes with thin soles. There is a certain philosophy behind this recommendation, which consists of several concepts:

1. The shoes should be light, so that their weight didn't deteriorate the feeling of the foot as a part of the leg. It means that the feeling of the foot wouldn't differ from the feeling of the whole leg, psychologically. Biomechanically it may affect the foot transfer in space and time: its speed, acceleration, and trajectory, which could all be deteriorated by heavy shoes. We can deliberately use heavy shoes for some special occasions of strength development, but not for a long time, and surely not permanently.

2. The shoes should have thin soles, with no cushioning at all. It reduces the weight, but this is not the main reason. First of all, it allows you to develop a very precise, refined feeling of interaction between the foot and the ground, while landing. Obviously, it is impossible to do this through a thick shoe sole. In a movement, when every hundredth of a second counts (the time of support in best runners is 0.15-0.20 sec.), the support time is a crucial thing for neuro-muscular coordination. When the signal for the foot to touch the ground reaches the muscles and makes them prepare for landing, it's already too late. And cushioning here is the factor which deteriorates timing and as a consequence, running technique, by increasing the time of support and due to this, loading of joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles.

Second, a thick sole and cushioning increase the possibility of pronation or supination, if the runner has a tendency to it. Hence, it leads to injuries, and we'll talk about this separately.

Third, in Pose Method landing occurs on the ball of the foot, not on the heel, so the thick shoe heel structure doesn't make any sense. Even more, it reduces the freedom of the heel, and ankle movement and decreases the calf muscle stretching elasticity effect.
