Could You Walk A Mile In .............?????????

A person shoes of another race?? Have you ever really wondered how hard it is for them?? Denied simply because of the color of their skin or ethnic background??????

Could You Walk A Mile In .............?????????
A great book to read is called "black like me".

It's about a white author who was able to dye his skin properly to pass as a black man.
Reply:I probably wouldn't do well at it. As it is (as a white guy) I'm already easily upset if I get lousy customer service or I don't get treated the way I think I should. I try to get my way, and get all bent out of shape if frustrated. Well, I guess I'm not as bad as I'm making this sound....I do have a little humility and I can get along OK, but I'm also very bad with wanting to exert my rights and whatnot, and I do get pretty ticked off over bullies and politically correct people acting better than me.

So, I would probably be so angry and bitter, feeling like I deserved respect and equal chances, or being unfairly judged because even though I'm good, the misdeeds of others are blamed on me.

You know what else I've imagined many time? I love my kids soooooo much, and can just imagine living low socioeconomically without a lot of hope or choices, and looking at my boys and knowing that they were going to be treated like crap, and would be trapped, and eventually sad and bitter.

Now, on the flip side....I HAVE been judged, threatened and mistreated strictly because of my skin color. It's not a great comparison to what you're actually talking about.....you're talking about a lifetime of constant unfairness; I'm talking about going somewhere that I'm not welcome, but have a right to be at, and I can choose to leave. But it does hurt, and it points out double-standards. I hope so much that this great country of America can hold it together and finish the job of blending and unifying the world's races and cultures. We're the only place like it, and while we're REALLY struggling right now, and so many are being treated SO poorly, I just have a deep belief that what we're doing is unique and positive, and will change everything eventually for the better. This world desperately needed to surpass all the borders, both geographically and culturally, and all the hurt it's caused with wars and protectionism. It's happening in this melting pot of a country. It's sure not pretty right now....it's not going to be when everyone gets thrown together like this. But, I have the utmost faith that it's the right thing and will work out.

Kim, you ask such thoughtful, intelligent questions!
Reply:Gee you mean like if you weren't hired because you didn't make the affirmative action quota? Or if you couldn't get into a school because they already had enough white students for the time being?
Reply:I think you are over simplifying things. Most people face some sort of hurdles and many succeed even in the face of adversity.

Being of a particular race is no worse than having some other type of difficulty to overcome.
