Go to a running specialty shoe store. They will have actual runners working there and they can get you into a pair that are correct for you. I especially recommend going to a store that has a track or treadmill in the store where they watch you run in the different shoes to see how your foot strike works with that shoe.

Oh, also, go after work or at least in the afternoon. You feat swell some druing the day, and they swell some when you run, so you will get a better fit for how they will fit when you run by going later in the day to try them on.
Reply:Try going in JJB sports they do great trainers for all sports, good luck in the race, Jack!!!
Reply:Go to a running store that will fit you to a good shoe, every runner is different. I never use to be a NIKE fan but tried the Nike Vamero and love them and they are rated number 1 by runners world. But go to a store that will evaluate your running on a treadmill so you get the right shoe for you

Try them out on a training run before race day.

Rule of Thumb "never try or wear anything new on race day"

you may end up with unexpected injuries, blisters chaffing that could ruin race day...Good Luck!!!!!!
Reply:I'm a fan of Reebok and they have recently launched a new range, which are for the kind of running you are going to do and on what terrain. At the moment I have a pair of ADDIDAS, which have reflectors. You'll have to check out their website/s. The choice is so varied so maybe before you go on make a list of what you require.

Check out e-bay (obviously not the used section) for cheaper prices and descriptions...
Reply:Definently go to a specialist running store, not a standard a sports shop, the difference is the specialist will be very knowledgable on the shoes they're selling and on what you'll need, some of my mates work in stores like JJB, some of them I'm not even shore no what a 'stability' shoe is let alone what it may be needed for.

If your race is in a few weeks go asap, try and get them before this weekend, then try wear them as often as poss, about the house for a couple of days, then start running int hem, to get them nice and comfy. Some brands will be comfy from the box, some brands be prepared for some hot spots for a little while, which is why its important to get them now, aswell as to get used to their new feel, weight etc.

A good specialist running shop will analyse your running gait, there are many methods of doing this, just bascially checking how your foot 'pronates' or rolls when your running, some will do this with you standing, some will have you run, some will use electronic treadmill based gait analysers. They'll then pick out a range of suitable shoes, you should then be given the opportunity to run in all of these, either in a treadmill or rouns the shop my local shop lets you run of round the industrial estate (thats another thing you won't get in JJB). Then you can just pick the ones that are most comfy for you, don't be afraid to ask to try on a pair a few times to narrow down between your top choices, a good running store won't mind this at all. If the store doesn't let you run in them or any of what listed above it is not a proper running shop, walk out, go somewhere else, a good running shop knows the importance of trying on lots of pairs and trying them while running.
