What king of shoes for a marathon?

I am running the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, OH [my hometown]. This is my first marathon and i'm not sure what to look for when looking at shoes. I am a seasoned runner, I know what to look for in a track shoe or cc shoe. However, I feel like I should be looking for something different, is this correct?

I am currently in love with the Nike+ Shox Turbo V that I train in, if I train in it, is that good enough to race a marathon in? thanks

What king of shoes for a marathon?
Nothing new on race day. If you've been training for the marathon in one particular shoe, you shouldn't change it up. However, with that said...track shoes don't offer as much support for the distance as say a specialty running shoe from Brooks or Mizuno or NB. Definitely head to a running specialty store and get yourself fitted for a pair if you're in the market for new shoes.

What works for me, may not work for you because each runner has their own gait and stride.

The marathon is quickly approaching, have you been training all along for it?
Reply:If you train in them then they are probably good to run a marathon in because what you need during such a long run is whats comfortable to you. If you like your Nike+ Shox Turbo V's than those are as good shoes as any
Reply:Wearing your trainers in the marathon is fine. Obviously, if they already have 500+ miles, you may want to get a new pair before the marathon. Run a few hour+ runs in them before the race to make sure they feel as good as the old ones.

Often runners want to wear a racing flat. In that case, I don't recommend wearing those unless you are running under 2:45 for a man or 3:00 for a woman. For runners in between you can always wear a light weight trainer. This is a nice compromise. They are a little lighter than your eveyday trainer but still have plenty of cushioning for the 26 miles.
