Shouldn't justice be "color blind"? Why is there still such racial unfairness in the U.S.?

Some of you may have heard about the Jena 6 case currently going on Louisiana. Although it has not received any press coverage, some radio personalities have stepped up to make sure that it is being covered and are taking a stand for these 6 black high school boys in Louisiana .They have

been charged with attempted murder by use of a tennis shoe against some white students who were not at all injured in this school yard fight. These young men are facing up to 100 years in prison. You can go online to get more detailed information about the case.

A petition is on the move to request an investigation into the

discrimination of the trial as well as other incidents leading up to the trial. The Steve Harvey Morning Show is also petitioning entertainers and groups to also join in the support.

will take you directly to the page to sign. It took me all of 30 seconds. These young men need our help. ALL of us, regardless of race!

Shouldn't justice be "color blind"? Why is there still such racial unfairness in the U.S.?
Justice should be color blind. Unfortunately there are alot of people who have hate in their hearts and are blinded by it. Let us pray not only for the injustice in Louisiana but all over the world. Let us realize that we are spirits housed in bodies and just like living in a yellow house on any given street doesn't dictate who a person is the same holds true for a spirit housed in a black, white, hispanic, mexican, (etc) person, and just like when you live in a house you can move one day we will no longer occupy the houses that we live in (in our physical bodies) and we will acsend to heaven (those of us that make it ). God is a spirit and he loves all of his children there is no color in heaven and one of the most important commands is to love. Love black, love white, love hispanic, love all and until we get that we really haven't accomplished much (have we??). See 2 corinthians 5. Be blessed!!!!!
Reply:Attempted murder, but the victim was able to go to a party that same night, if someone follows all the news story of the Jena 6 you will all know that racism is alive and well.

I wonder if it will ever end
Reply:There is a difference between suspending all the kids (black and WHITE) who were in a school wide fight.

It is a totally different thing to Arrest ONLY the black kids who were in the fight and charge them with attempted murder when the person they supposely nearly beat to death went to a party that same night.
Reply:Someone got my account suspended from this question. I had to waste five minutes of my life to make another.

I don't know why people want to over look the victom, this young white man, who was nearly beaten to death with a makeshift weapon from those "boys".

Justice needs to be served and they never need to see another free day again if they are convicted of attempted murder.
Reply:It's mainly due to people like Jesse Jackson that keep making mountains out of mole hills. And also other races getting special treatment like easier test keeping jobs even though they are not good workers because of their race. Whitey doesn't have anyone to back him up except himself as an individual but we still manage to survive.
Reply:I am so sick of hearing that this is only because the guys who beat the white boy up are black. If people wouldn't make such a big deal about it all, it wouldn't have escaladed to this point...but anyhow...

So, as a resident of Louisiana, this S*it is everywhere. For most of you from up North, you wouldn't understand the racism down here.

Kids fight. End of story.

Is hanging nooses right? By all means, no. (Which in the mean time I heard that they were playing the "cowboys" that week and the theme of the week was "hang em' high") Are fights right? By all means, no. But what many of you don't understand is that seems to be the way it is down here. I, however, seem to be "used" to hearing stuff like that since it's been around all of my life. Kids (especially in high school) will racially taunt one another. It happens. It doesn't mean, because you are called the "n" word, that you should go start beating the hell out of folks. I grew up in a pretty much mixed high school with a graduating class well in the 300's with about 900 kids total in the school. You hear stuff like that. Most people just blow it off. People call others names. Is it right? No. But they're kids.

If the shoe was on the other foot, though, it would be all over the place as far as the news. If a group of white guys beat up a black guy, it would surely be considered racism also. You all know that if 6 white guys beat up 1 black guy, the black guy would start hollering racism! The shoe fits both feet, here.

Sadly, racism exists and it's still pretty strong down south, especially here in Louisiana. I, by no means, am racist. Alot of my friends in high school were black. I heard from them and from the white kids at school all about the name calling, but of course, it always goes both ways. Blacks talk about whites, whites talk about blacks. It's just skin color, people! Some people are so shallow as to only see the skin color of a person.

Do I think a few kids who got in a fight at school over something so stupid (name calling) should spend 22 years in prison? NO WAY! It just goes to show how screwed up the system is.

Best of luck to those guys and I hope they don't have to spend 25% of their lives behind bars over a stupid fight that happened between immature students in high school. :( Maybe jail for a short amount of time to make them learn that beating someone to hospitilization because they called you a name, doesn't mean that you get off the hook so easily, in my opinion.

EDIT************************

No, the same would have still stood as far as Katrina. All the smart folks, black and white, left N.O. rather than staying there when they saw that Katrina was comin right for them. That's just lack of common sense. All that shows is major stupidity, white or black.
Reply:So we'll solve racism but letting black people beat up on white people without consequences? That's not my kind of justice.
Reply:I thought hate crimes (such as the nooses) were considered on par with burning crosses and nazi swatstikas in jewish neighborhoods? If the police are going to charge the black kids, why aren't they charging the white kids with hate crimes?

As for the charges themselves, they're overkill, yes, i agree. young criminal wannabes refine their craft in prison.

Those white kids need some hard community service and that school needs to force ethnic tolerance education on their students. The jury needs to be diversified and moved to a different venue. What a mess.

for anyone who wants to read the story:

Reply:Yes there is racial injustice in the US. Very sad but is true. And not only along racial lines - it also has to do with income and religion.

6 on one or two whatever the reason or "damage" is a form of mob action.

Attack one on one is bad let alone six on one or two.

This may being used as a form of "scared straight" behavior modification technique.

I very much doubt authorities would go this far without reason. If they have gone to far it will come out in the wash pretty quickly.

These six may have had a history of harassment and intimidation we do not know the full story.

I read the article on Snopes. 6:45pm

sounds like the children need to be taught something new rather than generational hate - on both sides.

The discrimination occurs within all races not just black on white or vice versa. Sociology!
Reply:Its not just a racial issue that needs to be addressed. We need prisons and there are those that belong there, but there is not justice mete for the crime anymore.

What people do not realize is that there is money to be made by the rich if people are in prison. It is more profitable to invest in prisons which maintain a 200% ocupancy than Holiday Inn which has a 70% ocupancy.

Then there is many of the major companies GM, GE, Toys-r-us etc. that hire these men and woman to work at .50 cents an hour. The clothing industry get a share. The catering service to feed them.

That is the reason for the 100 year sentences.

I am a Jail minister and what is going on in the justice system is the biggest disgrace to this country that ever existed.
Reply:Jena 6, you mean where it took 6 blacks to have the balls to attack 1 white kid. They should all be locked up for about 10 - 25 years.
