Why didn't the democrats get a more suitable candidate this election year?

The Dem's had a shoe election this year. Instead of going with an Al Gore type figure, they chose to "roll the dice" by picking a woman and a black male. You can cry racism all you want, but at the end of the day, there will be people, and a lot of them, who are are just plain not ready to see a black male, or a female in office. By no means am I suggesting it's right, but thats just still how it is. So why throw away votes at the expense of the democratic party? From a numbers point of view, it just doesn't make sense to me. Races are judged by numbers-not what's right and wrong.

Why didn't the democrats get a more suitable candidate this election year?
I used to be of the same mindset. Going into the primaries I said the only way the dem's could lose would be to nominate an african american or a woman or both. But over the course of the primaries I've started to realize how much the country hates the direction we are in and is striving for a higher level. Both Senator Clinton and Senator Obama bring this out in our nation's electorate. I think to a large extent so does Sen. McCain but the people just can't back 4 more years of similar policies to Bush. Plus I think people genuinely worry who he will pick as VP given the fact that he has said he won't run for reelection and some worry about his age/health.
Reply:Young, impressionable college liberals are naive enough to think Obama can possibly keep his promises of "hope and change". When the American Idol generation grows up maybe they will realize how politics work and that it is silly and outrageous to elect a man with no political or legislative accomplishments and to elect a man solely on his word. Actions speak louder than words, all Barack has to offer is words. Most politicians don't keep their word anyway so it'd be nice if he had some significant political accomplishments rather than voting "present" on every bill.
Reply:It seems to me they no longer want any one in the white house with the candidates they have run in recent years..and currently.. It makes no sense.. I guess their hierarchy thinks all of America is liberal... but that's a huge mistake.. we who work and pay the bills are not of the liberal views... those who dont work.. or are wealthy from money that was given them .. well they are the liberals.. thank goodness the workers out number the beggars and dreamers.
Reply:it look like the republicans went back in time and got them a old dinosaur for their candidate .look who talking when you had the worst ever candidates running on the Republican side . a Mormon a evangelical preacher , a NY corrupt politician ,and a old warmonger dinosaur .lmao
Reply:Because they felt this is the year they can jam anyone down our throats. Bush was so bad, our elitist far left leaders thought we will accept anybody. What fools. 8 more years of nothingness to look forward to. McCain will win in a landslide.
Reply:Well considering that both Democrats are leading McCain in all polls they really didn't need to. Perhaps the republicans should have chosen a candidate who can actually beat these Democrats who you call un-suitable.
Reply:Exactly as you say.

They are so cocksure of a win they feel they can run anyone.

Think about it,Isn't it surprising they didn't run a open homosexual?
Reply:You forgot to mention an 'unknown'. Everyone, even Republicans, are wondering the same thing.
Reply:Hopefully, you'll be proven wrong.
Reply:AMEN! We screwed ourselves.
Reply:I totally agree with you on this one. And Jeff G's got it right!

Republican has my vote.
Reply:In the beginning of this election process there were several good candidates for President but the two that survived were outstanding Black and Female candidates and the rest is history. The real test of this country tolerance is to be seen. Voters are registering in large numbers as Democrats more than in the history of the Democratic Party. Democrats are raising more money, primarily by small donations. The messages for change has resonated with voters and were adopted by both candidates. This should be a great time for a qualified woman and Black to be president. It's time for a change.
