Why vote?????

It's sad that politics in the united states has diminished to top dollar, more bang for your buck polititians, who have desensitized our sense of trust and honor, so why even vote, these are the corporate elite running for power, I'm sure at least the most intelligent of you understand that this is a turtle race to power-they are all corrupt, we all know it, we just don't want to admit it and seem like the ugly duckling, sadly enough, that is how it is, so we try to find other reason for the cognitive dissonance by digging up facts that make no difference towards the presidential seat, like middle names, race, and dieting-why vote people? You already determined this countries future when capitalism was introduced, the more the marrier, and I love capitalism for its ability to bring you up the later, but politics is its downside, so here's to all the people who voted for that sorry piece of crap at the bottom of my shoe for the past 2 elections, why mess up again?

Why vote?????
yeah i agree. eff politics
Reply:The way I see it if you don't vote, you have no right to complain ... just keep your trap shut. What's bad is when people vote without getting FACTS and merely listening to candidates' speeches about what they are or are not going to do for us is not getting FACTS. That's how we end up with a lot of crooks and losers in government.
Reply:You could make an argument that the individual vote doesn't really matter in the Presidential election. But tell that to the people of Florida in 2000.

As you know, the entire election was decided in Florida where a virtual circus of recounting led to a wide variety of possible results - the certified result had Bush winning the state by 537 votes. Because of flawed ballots and possible voter tampering, we may never know what the actual result was supposed to be. But the margin shows just how important each vote can be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Stat...

But our government isn't really about the Presidential elections. The real work of the government is by the Senators, Congressmen, and the various other local and state officials. And as the race becomes increasingly local, we have an increasing power to make meaningful choices with our vote.

But at the very least, everyone should vote for the simple fact that it's the one and only way that most of us are able to actively participate in shaping the direction of our nation. If we don't vote, we are just bystanders.
Reply:people can call it give up if they want but if it's between Obama %26amp; McCain %26amp; you don't believe in what they stand for, what are you suppose to do? Pretty stupid for you to vote for some one just to be voting. %26amp; yes it is awful our boys have to go over there %26amp; risk their lives. but do you think George Bush cares?
Reply:1.) People that don't vote should have no say.

2.) Today we have the Internet, we can research these pogo sticks much better than we could 20 yrs ago.

3.) Maybe you haven't noticed in you hypocritical smear of capitalism, Socialism fails ALL OVER the world. The State there picks who dies by regions and cuts off the food. Ask anyone that escaped STALIN.

4.) Did you vote the last two elections? The rest of us spoke LOUD and CLEAR about what and who we wanted.

I got who I wanted and he's done a better job than Mr. "I invented the Internet" or Mr. "I was Bill's best-est VP" ever could have thought about doing in response to terrorist that had long range planning over a year before that plan was executed.

We have problems, we always have and we always will. That's the NATURE of LIFE.

Failure to be part of the SOLUTION is to be part of the PROBLEM!
Reply:EVERYONE who doesn't want to vote for the Republican, or Democratic nominees, NEEDS to vote for another party.

NUMBERS of votes are the only way, we will ever get a chance to bring back a MORE THAN TWO PARTY RACE.
Reply:we have to choose the lesser of the evil. if u dont like any of them, vote for who is better. i know its hard, but really a lot of people will vote, there is nothing anybody can do to change that. we will have a new president. if you dont vote and other people choose not to, then we may end up with the worst.
Reply:To try and make sure that we don't make that mistake again. It's rough, I totally agree, and very disheartening to know that no matter who you vote for, you're voting for who paid for their campaign, not for them. They have to be somewhat concerned with us, if they want to stay in office for long though. Gotta have hope for something better though, otherwise, why do anything?
Reply:Even though your voice may seem small, you still have that voice, which is more than so many people around the world can say. You never know when a handful of votes will determine the outcome of an election until after it's too late to vote. And if just about every American decided not to vote, then the candidate with the biggest family would win... Personally, I prefer the system we have now to that, even though it has its many flaws.
Reply:It isn't a perfect or even decent system, true....but I vote primarily b/c it is my constitutional right, b/c I hope that others will rise up against the political machine, and b/c there are often other, local issues on the ballot...which directly affect me....

If you don't like the system, and most don't...instead of opting out, why not find a way to protest the system...if more people cared, they would innundate congress and their representatives to do more to stop the over spending and bickering, etc....but opting out and doing nothing to work for a better representative means that absolutely nothing will change.
Reply:The privilege of being an American. You don't want to vote? Don't. But don't complain about the new President's performance either.
Reply:Crawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwling innnnnnnnnn my skinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Reply:My MY you like the privilege of bitching but not the rights that gave you that right
Reply:People have given their lives for you to have your say in voting. To give up is not the answer.
Reply:If you don't plan on voting then keep your mouth shut. You have no right to complain if you don't vote. I know that and I'm 15.
Reply:the local elections are the ones that you should vote for, the others don't really seem to matter, voting down the tax levys for schools, police, etc. mill levy raises that make your taxes go up, or the voters that chose to ban smoking or keep, things that actually matter in your town.
