Where does this hatred of Bonds come from?

1. This is truly a media driven vehicle this all out hatred of Bonds. A person that know nothing at all about Baseball knows that they hate bonds.

2. The media acts that all of the steriod users from 89 - 07 means nothing as long as they get Bonds.

3. Don't say that race has nothing to do with it because I 'm still waiting for the Clemens shoe to drop and it hasn't. Yea I know about Mac but convienetly he is retired. Let's go after a current "legend" player.

Where does this hatred of Bonds come from?
Jealousy %26amp; the feeling that it's the in thing %26amp; cool thing to do by bashing him here. They don't realize that it's beyond run it's course already.
Reply:Bonds is so juiced up if you drank his urine you could bulk up your muscle mass by 50% instantly.

Steroids and supplements weren't around back in the old days. They didn't even train to the extent that today's players train. So yeah, screw the REAL legends, let's write Bonds into the history books as #1.
Reply:The thing with Bonds, is that he's always been nasty to the media, his family, EVERYBODY.

Bonds has the single season homerun record, and is going after one of the most ''sacred'' records in baseball. This record was thought to be untouchable.

Bonds went from being thin to looking like the Hulk. He ''admitted'' to using steroids, then denied it.

That's where the hatred comes from
Reply:From jealous brunettes~
Reply:1. Yes the media drives it, but the media basically drives everything we know about pro athletes.

2. I don't think the media thinks that all of the steroid users mean nothing. Bonds is however, involved in a criminal investigation of steroids. (during which he testified that he had taken them) Of all the possible steroid users. he happens to be the one most visible because he his on the verge of breaking the most hallowed record in baseball.

3. I would never say race has nothing to do with it, but I think it is less of a factor then most people think. I think that if McGwire was still playing and on the verge of breaking Aaron's record, the media would be just as suspicious of him.

I think most of the "hatred" that you see from Bonds was brought on by Bonds himself. If he had been perhaps a little more honest, maybe even coming out and saying that yes he did do steroids, instead of trying to say he didn't know what was in the cream, people would have accepted that. Instead, he has been short with the media, he has seemingly been more focused on his own personal glory then on his job as a member of a TEAM, and instead of taking responsibility for his actions, has put the blame for all of his troubles on the media. My thought for him would be, if you don't want to be in the spotlight, retire and perhaps look for something else to do. Perhaps explore the exciting world of fast food instead.
Reply:They think he cheated.
Reply:i think that the hatred that Barry Bonds is receiving is because he is real close to be breaking the best homerun record in the history of baseball! but... that is totally my opinion on the ordeal
Reply:Well lets see, besides the fact that he used performance enhancing drugs (and the proof is there people), hes a complete loser with no respect for the game.
Reply:Simply put..

Bonds is the poster child for the steroid abuse in baseball in the 90s.. and Because of his 'alleged' performance enhanced career he is now about to break the all-time home run record of a truly great baseball player who stood for what was good about baseball.

Would Bonds be close without steroid use.. he'd probably be in the 600s, might even have cracked 700 without steroid use, but the fact remains, because of steroids, he has tainted the record chase.

When Aaron broke Ruth's record, there were those against it from a racial stand-point, and he received death threats.. in every sense Aaron earned that record, and now it will be lost to a cheater. The only saving grace is like him or not A-Rod should break Bonds record and from every indication, A-Rod is not a cheater.. at least where steroids are concerned..

I am certain the 'hatred' would be just as pronounced if it was Mark McGwire two homers away from beating Aaron..
Reply:media.
Reply:the media , new talk shows and other players
Reply:I think its because he has totally and completely taken the joy out of the HR record chase for most baseball fans outside of San Francisco. I can see him breaking the record on the road and getting booed.

It s@cks but theres still A-rod (as a Mariners fan I actually dont like A-rod but I can appreciate his talent) to look forward to, not to mention Pujols!
Reply:people think he takes steroids,,,they should spot check all the players for drug testing
Reply:Well said
Reply:I agree. Steroids or not Barry Bonds is the greatest of all time. Who else has won 7 MVP's..........Nobody.
Reply:They don't understand the definition of cheating, which they think he did. He took "cream"' and "clear" but he didn't cheat. People should actually crack open a dictionary or finish grammar school at the very least before whipping out terms they don't fully understand.

If the term cheater is used to describe Bonds then Aaron cheated for taking greenies, which he admitted in his own book. You can't just single out Bonds. If Bonds acted dishonestly to gain an advantage then what's the difference between greenies? GNC? If you are all about natural ability then start hating your own heroes as well.
Reply:The public hates him because of sterioids.

I hate him because of his ego. Just listen when he talks to reporters!
Reply:How does a grown man's shoe size increase by two sizes naturally?? If Tiger Woods was found to be using illegal equipment to win all his majors, wouldn't you call fowl?

Bonds is good, but he and many others are imposters.
Reply:1. True. Just because he's been protective of himself and abrasive when stupid questions came his way, once he quit giving regular interviews, the media launched a smear campaign to make his name look bad.

2. It is sad that there were others that used drugs, openly and behind the scenes, but Barry is the only one getting heat. It just goes back to the smear campaign and blindness of the media to project onto the fans and people alike. That's why everyone seems to only hate Barry.

3. Race is no issue. Only ignorance not knowing that Barry and others took drugs legally that were not banned or made illegal at that time. The fans just ate it up, in addition to the two crooked columnists from the SF Chronicle that made the whole issue personal towards Barry. Brainwashing in this modern ages does work!

4. I've met Barry at work (EA Sports) and in our neighborhood numerous times before he moved to Beverly Hills. He was the nicest person you could ever meet and was kind and patient with everyone. He shook hands, signed autographs, took time to chat about things and posed for photos. His kindness reached out to many charities in the SF Bay Area too. As an actor and athlete, he's genuine and people have him pegged as a bad person, which is untrue.
Reply:I try to reserve the race card for special occasions and this is not it. He cheated, he's been a jerk to his teammates, and he's about to have a home run record based off the use of steroids.

Media driven? Perhaps.

I don't really watch baseball (it's the only sport I don't watch) so I might be off base.

Also, if this were a race issue (or could really even be perceived as such) don't you think one of the Reverends (Jackson or Sharpton) would have blown a gasket by now?

Reply:I dont care about the steroids because he was never caught. Leave him alone about it. Other than the fact he is the biggest asshole to ever play the game, he is fine. And for you idiots that think this is about race ... umm ... goofballs, the home run record is owned by a black man ... duh ... race doesn't even make sense
Reply:I'm with you, here. Bonds is one of the best, most feared hitters in the league, and has been for years.

When he gets his moment in the spotlight, every reporter within 50 miles starts screaming about steroids. Can you blame a guy who has never once tested dirty for getting sick of it and just not answering anymore?

I think Bonds deserves a real place in baseball history, and not some damn asterisk.
Reply:hes a prick!, i work with gnats fans who say the same thing ...hes not a likeable person i work 1 mile from his b.h. home and a few of the attorneys in my bldg are his neighbors and they say the same thing too....and to top it off hes a gnat

go DODGERS!

2. He is a total jerk ( have you ever heard him talk)

3. He has little to no respect for other players.

Thats enough for me.
Reply:People hate him not only because he is a cheater that is about to break the biggest record in sports but he has been the biggest prick in sports
